A meeting of the Board of Selectmen took place on March 8, 2018.  Present were:  William F. Adams, Monica Vandoloski, Sara Scanlon-Fournier, Bernard Forgea (Fire Chief & Emergency Management Director), Michael Perkins (Police Chief) and Alan Taylor (Highway Superintendent).

Russell L Sears was absent – attending a meeting in Worthington.

Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m.

Discussion regarding Sara’s appointment as an Assistant Emergency Management Manager.  Bernie explained how she has overseen the Cummington CERT program and some of the training is nearing completion regarding Cummington CERT because prior to this she hadn’t completed any project through fruition.  A motion was made upon recommendation of Chief Forgea that Sara Scanlon-Fournier be appointed an Assistant Emergency Management Director.  Sara asked Bernie why he didn’t move on this appointment in August when she first asked – he again stated she had to complete a project.

Mike Perkins spoke about cleaning out the old principal office at BTES which is for MLP use and also the copier which is now in the Library at BTES.  The copier will be brought back to the office for MLP use.

Mike also spoke about the grant received from MIIA for cameras but at the same time the Community House availability.  Mike is going to investigate further with Industrial Security the locking system for the building, the cost and also talk with MIIA regarding the grant use.  He stated that Jim Drawe said it had to be open 24/7 according to the will of Worcester Warner.  The Community House was always locked and opened  in the early morning  and locked later evening  until DSL came  to be at the Community House which than became available to the general public and their computers with a public password.  Monica will check and get back to Mike about mention of the purpose of Community House etc.  The Selectmen agreed to move in this direction.  Thank you Mike.

Bill spoke about maybe going into executive session so everyone got up to leave and Bill asked Bernie to stay he had some questions.  No mention or vote was made to go into executive session.  Discussion between Bill Adams and Fire Chief Forgea centered around the subject of what were Bernie’s plans for the future as far as his position as Fire Chief and the department.  Bill stated the other members of the Selectboard concur that it is time to let the younger generation take over.  Bernie got up and stated you will hear about this tomorrow.  Bill asked if he (Bernie) was threatening him.

The COA proposal for the storage and use of medical equipment in the basement.  They have guidelines to follow and most important is the condition and where things can be left and the sign up sheet etc.  This was a good proposal.  Motion made, seconded and voted unanimously to allow the proposal to go forward with a review in six months.

Bill went to a meeting at Fish & Game regarding culverts and grant program availability.  Bill has been in contact with Amy and the Wild & Scenic group regarding engineering costs and what assistance is available.  

Caucus for nomination of Town Officers is March 15, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.

Next meeting is March 22, 2018.
