Meeting Minutes




Present: BoH members: Jack Earls and Jim Wettereau.

Visitor: Judi Bogart, former BoH member, recently resigned.


Meeting opened at 6:30 pm.


Previous Minutes:  The 12-18-17 Minutes were approved as presented.


Visitor / Vital Statistics: Judi Bogart, who recently resigned her position on the Board of Health, was unanimously welcomed to attend future BoH meetings, and she agreed to be available for consulting. She stated that she won’t be available any longer to print death certificates. Jim and Jack agreed it is unnecessary and inefficient for the BoH to print death certificates, and in the future, it will be the Town Clerk’s duties.


MAVEN coverage: On 12-28-17, Reed Sherrill (trainer for the Massachusetts Virtual Epidemiologic Network) emailed to the BoH a list described as “a case count for years 2012-present, stratified by disease classification” for Cummington. There were 28 cases on the list. Someone is needed to monitor the MAVEN system each week, and update the entries as-needed. Judi agreed to contact a potential candidate, and Jim will give the email and attached list to another potential candidate. The BoH agreed Hilltown Ambulance may also provide suggestions.


Transfer Station:

Trash permits for commercial haulers & annual permit-fee: Jim customized a letter drafted by HRMC that will be sent to (approximately ten) local commercial refuse haulers. An application for a hauler’s-permit will be enclosed with each letter. The BoH agreed haulers will be charged $20 annually for a permit. The secretary will computerize Jim’s markup and will provide the update to Jim and Jack for their review and approval.

New Fencing at the Transfer Station: Jack contacted New England Fencing for a quote and is waiting for a callback.

Bid for replacing rubbish compactor: Jim met with Tom Maguire and received specifications and an itemized bid for a Marathon RJ225 stationary compactor. Minimal site work will be needed, and the existing shed will have more space inside after the existing equipment is removed. The BoH will request $20,000 for the compactor in the upcoming fiscal budget, and this will include electrical work.
