When should I call 9-1-1?

911

911Save a Life

911Stop a Crime

911Report a Fire

Anytime help is needed from police, fire, or ambulance personnel, 9-1-1 should be your first call in an emergency.

9-1-1 CALLING TIPS
Stay calm and speak clearly
Be sure to listen carefully and answer all of the dispatcher's questions to the best of your ability
If possible, do not hang up until the 9-1-1 dispatcher has obtained all of the information that is needed.

SILENT CALL PPOCEDURE
If you cannot speak, you can still communicate with the dispatcher by using your landline phone's key pad. Once the call taker answers
Press 1 if you need Police
Press 2 if you need Fire
Press 3 if you need an Ambulance

Cordless phones will not work during power outages, so it is important to always keep a corded phone in your home in case of emergency

WIRELESS/CELLULAR PHONES
If you are calling from a cellular phone, please provide as much information to the dispatcher as possible. New technology allows dispatchers to receive your phone number and approximate location where the call orginated from within a couple of hundred yards. The more information you can give, the better.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Medical Alert deviecs do not provide a direct connection with your local police, fire or ambulance personnel. If immediate help is needed and a phone is within your reach, call 9-1-1
TDD/TTY users should call 9-1-1 directly. All 9-1-1 dispatchers are equipped with and trained to use TDD/TTY equipment
Massachusetts residents with disabilities may qualify for specialized telephones and accessories free of charge or at a reduced rate. Please visit www.massedp.com or call 1-800-300-5658 V/TTY for more information

Meeting times: As needed
Term: Appointed by the Board of Selectmen for 1 year at the first Selectboard meeting following the Annual Town Meeting
Compensation: None

The Cummington Building Review Committee was created by the Cummington Board of Selectmen to advise them on the condition of Cummingtons buildings.  They annually inspect all of the Town of Cummingtons buildings, determine what repairs are needed, obtain estimates for the needed repairs, and present the list of repairs and estimated costs to the Selectboard.  The Selectboard reviews the list and either authorizes the Cummington Building Review Committee to proceed with the repairs or submits the list and estimates to the Cummington Finance Committee for funding.  When the Building Review Committee receives approval and funding for a project, they put the project out to bid or solicit the appropriate vendors depending on the size of project.  They have responsibility for oversight of the repair projects and submit the bills for the repair work to the Selectboard for payment.  Some of the projects that the Cummington Building Review Committee has undertaken in the last several years include, repair of the roof and septic system, and replacement of the oil tanks in the Cummington Bryant Free Library, repair of the roof and replacement of the windows in the Cummington Community House, and repair of the roof on the Cummington Firehouse.
